Description
Background information
South Australian teachers are being supported to help bring the national curriculum to the classroom like never before, with one of the biggest curriculum development initiatives ever seen in South Australia being launched.
The new resources include detailed scope and sequence documents for the science learning area in the Australian curriculum, as well as flexible and practical units of work that teach directly to the curriculum and are designed specifically for South Australian students.
Why you should attend this workshop!
This workshop will unpack the Why? How? & What? of the units of work.
Content descriptions don’t always give teachers enough information about what they need to teach and how deep to go. These units unpack the concepts that need to be taught, the pedagogy that will promote understanding and engagement, and clearly highlight success criteria.
Each unit:
Embeds Literacy and Numeracy when teaching science.
Explicitly teaches a General Capability.
Embeds Aboriginal science practices information into the unit as well as providing resources ready to teach in your classroom.
The aim is for teachers to be able to implement the units in their classrooms as they are released. This workshop will use an example unit from Year 7.
Teachers will be engaged in purposeful activities that build pedagogical tools as well as an understanding of how to connect classroom learning to the Australian Curriculum.
Who should attend this workshop?
Secondary classroom teachers 7-10 and science specialist teachers
