Applications close Friday 26 September

The Centre for Australian Space Education (CASE) invites applications from Year 10 students across South Australia for the four-day residential South Australian Space School, taking place from 10–13 December 2025 (Week 9, Term 4).

Now in its 28th year, this long-running program is highly regarded across the STEM education sector. Many past participants have gone on to careers in space research, engineering, and science industries around the world. Participation in the camp is often looked upon favourably when students apply for work experience placements and university-based scholarships or internships in space-related fields.

Program highlights
Participants will take part in a range of hands-on and immersive activities, including:

  • Building and launching model rockets at Hamilton Secondary College
  • Touring the EXTERRES (Extraterrestrial Environmental Simulation) laboratory at the University of Adelaide
  • Visiting the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG)
  • Hearing from guest speakers working in space science, physics, engineering and life sciences
  • Exploring the Australian Space Discovery Centre and learning about the Australian Space Agency
  • Touring RAAF Base Edinburgh (subject to availability)
  • Visiting the Planetarium and Pipehenge at Hamilton Secondary College
  • Experiencing the Mission to Mars simulation

Eligibility
Open to Year 10 students enrolled at a South Australian school in 2025.

Application details

  • Camp dates: 10–13 December 2025
  • Applications close: Friday, 26 September 2025 (Week 10, Term 3)

  • Registration fee: $80 (for successful applicants only; includes accommodation, meals, transport, camp polo shirt and printed materials)

Up to 24 students will be selected. A gender balance is expected among attendees.

Supporting documents required
Before submitting your application, prepare the following documents:

  1. Personal statement (max. 300 words)
    Address your interest in science, career aspirations, academic achievements, and reasons for wanting to attend the Space School.
  2. School referee statement (max. 300 words)
    To be written by a Science teacher or school representative, outlining your academic strengths, involvement in science activities, and personal attributes.
    Your referee will be contacted separately, so make sure to speak to them in advance.
  3. Consent form
    Download from www.spaceschool.com, complete it with a parent or guardian, and upload it with your application.

Scholarships
A scholarship is available for rural and remote students, sponsored by the Defence Science and Technology Group. This can be used to assist with travel and registration costs.
