Jordan Della Pietra

School / Organisation: Woodville High School

Current role: STEM Coordinator

What inspired you to become a science teacher?

I have always loved learning. I remember helping my sister with her schooling from a young age. After completing studies in my passion, marine biology, I wanted to help others that might not have the support system I had or that I provided for my sister.

How many years have you been teaching? About 6 years

Why did you join the SASTA Board?

To give back to the community that made me feel like I could bring new ideas to schools with confidence that these ideas were shared by some great minds.

If you could travel back in time and attend any scientific discovery or experiment in history, which one would it be, and why?

There are so many! I guess the discovery of electricity or something microscopic, like the tardigrade. Imagine finding a tiny creature that is pretty much immortal!

If you were to sum up your teaching philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?

My teaching philosophy is really about nurturing a passion for learning, driven by a personal curiosity about science and how the world works.
