Embark on a unique "paddock to plate" learning journey with our school excursions at @Lenswood, an award-winning Agritourism destination just outside Adelaide. Designed to provide a holistic understanding of food production, students will experience the behind-the-scenes operations of a commercial apple orchard, learning about the entire process from growing to the supermarket.
Curriculum-Linked Learning: Our excursions are designed to align with the Australian Curriculum, focusing on the Food and Fibre Curriculum Connection. This ensures that the experiences provided directly complement classroom teachings across various subjects, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Excursion Highlights:
- Tailored Educational Programs: We offer age-specific programs for primary, secondary, and homeschool groups, ensuring that each experience is engaging and relevant. The curriculum links are carefully embedded in all activities, covering topics such as:
- The apple life cycle and production process
- Water and irrigation management
- Sustainable farming practices and technology
- Agricultural issues and diversification in Australia
- Entrepreneurship in farming
Comprehensive Learning Resources:
- Pre-Excursion Activities: Designed to prepare students for their visit, these activities align with the curriculum and introduce key concepts.
- Excursion Workbook: Provided as a downloadable PDF, the workbook encourages interactive learning during the excursion and helps consolidate understanding.
- Post-Excursion Activities: These activities and experiments reinforce the knowledge gained during the farm visit, ensuring a complete educational experience.
Seasonal and Real-World Experiences:
- Seasonal Learning: Students have the opportunity to witness different aspects of orchard management throughout the year, such as apple picking in autumn or pruning in winter, providing a real-world understanding of seasonality in agriculture.
Excursion Details:
- Availability: Excursions are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm throughout various school terms.
- Pricing: $20 per student, with free entry for teachers and supervisors as per South Australian supervision guidelines. Additional supervisors are charged at $7 each.
